Now plug it in and push the lever down with no bread inside. If it pops up fine with no bread, the problem isn’t the toaster, it’s what you put in it.

Also, always toast with the lever fully down. If you hold the lever halfway, you’re engaging the latch on a slope, and it can slip or jam.
Tools You Need (And What You Can Skip)
You don’t need a fancy toolkit. Most toaster repairs are done with stuff you already own.

Step-by-Step: Full Disassembly and Pop-Up Repair
Okay, you’ve done the quick fixes. The crumbs are gone. The latch is clean.
The springs look okay. And it still won’t pop.
Time to get serious.
Here’s the full procedure I use when I repair a toaster from top to bottom.
Step 1: Unplug and clear the area.
Work at a table with good light. Have a bowl nearby for screws. If you lose a screw inside a toaster, you’ll be hunting for it forever.
